U.S. Senators John Boozman (R-AR) and Rev. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) are leading an effort that would allow for military chaplains who died while serving the nation to be memorialized at Arlington National Cemetery.
"@ArlingtonNatl is sacred ground – a reminder of the sacrifice of those who served in uniform including military chaplains who gave their lives alongside and ministered to their brothers and sisters in arms," Boozman wrote in a tweet. "Proud to lead a bipartisan effort to honor them."
In a press release, Boozman said that the Chaplains Memorial Preservation Act will allow the " National Conference on Ministry to the Armed Forces to update the Protestant, Catholic and Jewish chaplains’ memorials at Arlington National Cemetery with the names of all military chaplains who died on active duty."
According to Warnock, military chaplains also gave the ultimate sacrifice for the country to defend the freedom of the American people, and should be honored in the same was as others who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
“Military chaplains who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our freedoms deserve a final resting place that honors all the parts of their service, both to our country and to the souls of their fellow service members,” Warnock said in the release.
Rabbi Harold L. Robinson D.D, Rear Admiral of National Conference on Ministry to the Armed Forces, said in the release he and the National Conference on Ministry to the Armed Forces express its appreciation for Sen. Boozman in working to honor the military chaplains in such a way.
"God bless them and God bless the United States of America,” Robinson said in the release.
