Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott Jr. has been chosen first vice president of the African American Mayors Association (AAMA).
Scott previously served as second vice president to the AAMA in only his second year as mayor of Little Rock. In his new position, Scott will work with AAMA president and Mayor Sylvester Turner of Houston.
"It is my honor to now be 1st Vice President of the African American Mayors Association," Scott wrote in a May 15 social media post. "I look forward to working with Mayor Sylvester Turner of Houston, Texas, the new AAMA President. As Mayor Turner said, 'This is not the time to be incremental. This is the time to be transformational.' #UniteLR"
Scott has also been selected to replace Turner and become president of AAMA in May 2022.
"I look forward to the work AAMA will do in the coming year, and the opportunities it will offer which will assist our efforts to unite Little Rock," Scott said.
Founded in 2014, the AAMA's membership includes mayors from cities of all sizes across the country. The AAMA works closely with the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the Congressional Black Caucus.
