Tyson Foods recently announced that employees will be compensated for up to four hours of regular pay if they need to receive the vaccine outside of their normal shift or through an external source.
This announcement comes as Tyson deploys COVID-19 vaccination sites where employees can receive free COVID-19 vaccinations at some of the company’s locations.
“I appreciate the company’s efforts to secure vaccines for us,” said Tim Adams, a Tyson Foods employee of 47 years. “I’m in a high-risk category due to my health, so for me it was an easy decision to get vaccinated. It’s the next logical step in keeping myself and those around me healthy and safe.”
The pay compensation is intended to incentivize employees to receive the vaccination. Vaccinations for Tyson Foods team members are not mandatory, but employees are highly encouraged to receive the vaccine.
"We’re working to make the COVID-19 vaccine available to all team members who want it – but that wouldn't be possible without partners like Matrix Medical and local health departments in our communities," Tyson foods said in a March 10 Facebook post.
Tyson Foods has partnered with Matrix Medical to implement this vaccine distribution program. The company is also working with local and state health officials and other approved vaccine providers to ensure the all Tyson Food employees have access to vaccines, although vaccine availability will vary by state.
“We’re really excited about this vaccine rollout and being able to support Tyson, because as states have more access and as more vaccines get approved by the federal government we will be able to ensure that more and more of the employees they have at Tyson are able to receive that vaccine,” Nicole Oishi Vice president clinical solutions Matrix Medical Network said.
So far, several hundred Tyson Foods team members, mostly health service staff and workers over the age of 65, have already been vaccinated with approximately 1,000 frontline workers in Illinois, Missouri and Virginia expected to be vaccinated within the week.
