Walmart, Sam’s Club and the Walmart Foundation are making up to $1 million in cash and in-kind product donations to areas hit hard by the recent winter storms, Businesswire reports.

Some of the donation will go to Feeding Texas, a food bank, as they assist others in making sure the communities of Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, the Rio Grande Valley and other areas across the state don’t go hungry in the wake of the storms.

“Hundreds of thousands of Texans are going to turn to food banks in the days and weeks to come, on top of the millions already struggling to feed their families during the pandemic,” said Celia Cole, CEO of Feeding Texas, as reported by Businesswire. “We are grateful for the Walmart Foundation’s incredible generosity during these challenging times. This donation will help Texas food banks keep their communities nourished and resilient through this crisis.”

Funds will also go to relief efforts in Tennessee, Mississippi and Louisiana.

Walmart’s aim during disasters is to make associate safety a priority, according to Businesswire. The Emergency Operations Center at the Walmart Home Office in Bentonville, Arkansas has been activated to help Walmart associates in areas affected by the weather. The corporation is also working to ensure stores in those areas are receiving the stock they need to serve the community.

“This extreme winter weather is leaving our associates, customers and communities without heat, water and electricity, the basic services we all depend on every day,” said Dan Bartlett, executive vice president of corporate affairs for Walmart Inc. “We gladly leverage our resources to help these hard-hit communities, and we stand with Texas and all those affected.”

This effort adds to Walmart’s extensive record of helping in times of disaster, Businesswire reports. Founded in 1979, the Walmart Foundation provided another avenue for the corporation’s philanthropic efforts to make a difference in communities. Together Walmart and the Walmart Foundation have donated more than $58 million in cash and in-kind donations since just FY2017. These donations not only went to disaster relief, but preparations beforehand to mitigate impact.
