A post oak at Wilson Park has been named the 2026 Amazing Tree of Fayetteville, according to an announcement on April 14. The tree was selected by residents for its large size and visible location near the Wilson Park Hub entrance off Prospect Street.

The designation is part of a program that highlights trees considered remarkable due to their size, rarity, unique form, or importance to the community. Organizers say this recognition aims to draw attention to the role that trees play in shaping both the character and ecological health of Fayetteville.

Standing approximately 62 feet tall with a diameter-at-breast height of 43 inches, the post oak greets visitors heading toward park amenities such as the pool and courts or those simply enjoying a walk through Wilson Park. Residents chose this tree from among five nominees identified by City staff and members of the Urban Forestry Advisory Board. Eligible nominees are required to be located in City parks or on other City-owned land.

Mayor Molly Rawn will unveil a commemorative plaque honoring the post oak during Earth Week activities scheduled for April 17-25. The public ceremony is set for Monday, April 20 at 4 p.m., near the Hub entrance at Wilson Park.

Another notable tree—the bois d’arc (Osage orange)—which was selected as an Amazing Tree in 2018, stands just southeast of this year’s honoree within Wilson Park. Additional information about previous selections can be found on the City’s website at www.fayetteville-ar.gov/AmazingTrees. Details about Earth Week events are also available online at www.fayetteville-ar.gov/EarthWeek.
