The Pro Bono Work to Empower and Represent (POWER) Act will hold a virtual event on May 20 at 4:00 PM Eastern Time, according to an April 28 announcement. The program is set to be recorded and made available to co-sponsoring courts around May 27.
The POWER Act promotes pro bono legal services aimed at empowering survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. These events are intended as a critical tool for mobilizing attorneys willing to provide pro bono assistance and for fostering connections among legal service providers and community organizations working with survivors.
Organizers say that since the initial passage of the POWER Act, district court efforts have led to pro bono legal summits across the country. In fiscal year 2022 alone, they report that “81% of district courts sponsored or co-sponsored POWER Act events, reaching over 6,000 people.” The upcoming virtual event will include participation from a total of sixty-five court units nationwide.
Those interested in attending can register online. Once registered, participants will receive a link for the virtual program approximately two days before it takes place.
