The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) Golden Lions men’s golf team won the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Championship for the third time in four years, according to an April 15 announcement. The victory came after three rounds at the par-72 Oxmoor Valley Ridge Course in Birmingham, Alabama, where UAPB finished with a team score of +12.

This achievement highlights UAPB’s growing dominance in conference play and marks their third SWAC title since 2023. The team’s consistent performance sets them apart as the only program to win three championships within this period.

Throughout the tournament, UAPB excelled statistically. They led all teams in Par 5 scoring, tied with Texas Southern at a 4.77 average for a combined -14 on those holes. The Golden Lions also recorded four eagles—double that of any other team—and topped the field with 151 total pars while finishing with the fewest bogeys at just 50 over three rounds.

Individually, Jules De Reu stood out by tying for third place overall and leading all players in Par 5 scoring and eagles. Jonathon Baumann contributed significantly by making eleven birdies—the most among all competitors—while Cole Wiese posted his best round on the final day to help secure victory. Timur Alalin demonstrated consistency on par threes and added stability throughout each round, while Angel Perez improved each day and contributed both pars and an eagle during competition.

Head coach Roger Totten said: “I’m proud of what this group has done — not just this year, but over time,” he said. “Three SWAC championships in four years and a national title along the way… that speaks to consistency, commitment, and the character of these young men. Some of them weren’t here when this run started, but they came in, bought in, and carried the standard forward. That’s what a true program is about. This isn’t about one moment — it’s about building something that lasts. And everything we’ve built, we’ve built for UAPB. For the Black and Gold. For Golden Lion Nation. We’re just grateful to keep adding to that legacy.”

Looking ahead, UAPB will await their placement during the NCAA Regional Selection Show scheduled for May 6th before competing at regionals from May 18–20.
