Thomas McCawley of Tontitown recently claimed a $100,000 prize after playing the $5 instant game Fiery 5’s. He purchased his winning ticket at Tontitown Z-Mart Inc., located at 441 W. Henri De Tonti Blvd.

McCawley decided to buy the ticket during a stop at his favorite retailer on his lunch break. The store is owned by a family friend, and he often plays $5 instant games there. “I just had a hunch,” McCawley told lottery officials. “I guess you could say it just spoke to me.”

After returning to work, McCawley scratched off the ticket and found that he had won the top prize in the first row. “This can’t be real,” he thought. “It was really hard to go back to work after that,” McCawley laughed.

He shared the news with his wife and family members, who did not believe him until they saw the winning ticket themselves. McCawley said he plans to use part of his winnings to buy a wheelchair-accessible vehicle for his mother-in-law.

According to lottery officials, one $100,000 top prize remains on Fiery 5’s.

The Arkansas Scholarship Lottery is currently running its 5-Buck Bundle promotion until February 28, which allows players to receive tickets for Powerball with Power Play, LOTTO, and Natural State Jackpot for $5 total.

Since its start in 2009, the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery has sold over $8 billion in tickets and provided more than $1.5 billion in scholarships for students across Arkansas through more than 822,000 awards distributed by the Arkansas Department of Higher Education. In addition, it has awarded over $5.6 billion in prizes and generated more than $471 million in commissions for retailers as well as over $190 million in state and federal tax revenue.

Players must be at least 18 years old to participate in any lottery game in Arkansas.
