Arkansas Northeastern College issued the following announcement on June 25.
Arkansas Northeastern College hosted the 2022 Mini-MASH program from June 20th – 24th. Mini-M*A*S*H, Medical Applications of Science for Health, is a one-week summer enrichment program for 10th 11th, and 12th graders from area schools interested in pursuing a career in healthcare.
Students are selected based on their academic standing, community involvement, and their interest in pursuing a medical career.
During the one-week program, students were given the opportunity to take part in the following activities:
• Receive CPR training certification
• Trained in how to “Stop the Bleed”
• Maneuver through the heart while an Anatomy & Physiology Instructor directs their dissection and suturing
• Apply casts to one another after learning proper techniques
• Perform dental molds in a dental simulation lab
• Microbiology concepts in a microbiology lab
• Engage with high-fidelity clinical simulation mannequins to assess blood pressure
• Learn more about the shortages in Primary Care and Rural Medicine
• Learn about Organ Donation
• Learn about Social Media and its devastating implications if used improperly
• Blytheville Police Department D.A.R.E. drunk driving course
• Team building exercises
• Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Nutritional counseling and preparing their own food
• Much, much more!
