Arkansas Adjutant General issued the following announcement on May 4.
Reminder: Ensuring the correctness of annual federal and state tax filings is a responsibility of the individual filing the tax return. This responsibility is applicable regardless if one is using any local tax service or any online electronic tax filing services. There are reports of online electronic tax filing software incorrectly calculating state income tax returns in relation to National Guard and Reserve earned income. The state of Arkansas exempts all state taxes for income earned through National Guard or Reserve military service. Leaders should ensure all subordinates understand this individual responsibility as well as the Arkansas state income tax exemption concerning income earned through National Guard or Reserve military service.
If a Service Member needs assistance with filing taxes or making corrections, the Arkansas National Guard has one fulltime personal financial counselor at 479-353-4998 or pfc1.ar.ng@zeiders.com.
