Arkansas' economy continues to show signs of recovery as the unemployment rate continues to drop.
The unemployment rate in Arkansas decreased from 4.2% in August to 4.0% for the month of September. For comparison, the national unemployment rate dropped 0.4 points to 4.8%, according to a press release by the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services.
"The economy continues to expand in Arkansas with the unemployment rate dropping to 4.0%," Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson said in a news release. "We continue to be lower than the national unemployment rate, and it is even better news that more people are returning to the workforce. Job training is available for any who wish to improve their marketable skills, and I expect job creation to continue in the state because of our skilled workforce and the population growth that we are currently experiencing."
The press release also noted that the Natural State had a net increase in jobs added.
"Arkansas’ civilian labor force increased (by) 594, a result of 3,561 more employed and 2,967 fewer unemployed Arkansans," according to the press release from the Division of Workforce Services.
For the month of September, non-farm payroll jobs in Arkansas rose 17,300 for a total of 1,276,800. Most of the gains were in seven major industry sectors including: government, trade, transportation, utilities, educational services, health services and manufacturing.
