Hundreds of migrants have crossed into Texas following an influx Sept. 18, with many coming from Haiti.
Previous figures from Sept. 15 from the International Bridge area show under the bridge migrant numbers at 4,000, which jumped to 11,000 following the increase seen on Sept. 18, according to Fox News.
"The crisis at our southwest border has shown no signs of slowing down," Congressman French Hill said on Facebook Sept. 20. "In August, 208,887 migrants were encountered at the southwest border, a 317% increase compared to August 2020. Now, thousands of migrants are camped out in Del Rio, Texas, under the assumption they will be allowed into the United States."
While it is still unclear how such a large migrant wave amassed so quickly, many Haitians have been congregating in camps on the Mexican side of the border, such as in Tijuana, across from San Diego, according to Fox News.
"The border crisis represents a national security, public health, and humanitarian crisis," Hill wrote. "President Biden rescinded the Trump Administration’s policies that were controlling the flow of migrants and replaced them with absolutely nothing. I encourage President Biden to act and reinstate Trump-era border policies including resuming congressionally authorized border wall construction, the 'remain in Mexico' policy for asylum seekers, and the Northern Triangle agreement."
The Biden administration said that it is planning a wide-scale expulsion of the Haitian migrants, with flight plans being arranged to start Sept. 19.
