Arkansas Adjutant General issued the following announcement on July 27.
Approximately 130 Arkansas Army National Guardsmen from the 142nd Field Artillery Brigade's Headquarters and Headquarters Battery stand in a formation as the Command, as well as state and local leaders, honored them at a sendoff ceremony Sunday.
The ceremony was held at the Arkansas Air and Military Museum at Drake Field, Fayetteville Ark. Speakers included the 142nd FAB Commander, Col. Jeffrey Clements, and U.S. Sen. John Boozman. Due to the recent spike in COVID-19 cases, the ceremony was closed to the public and included only members of the deploying unit, the Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Kendall Penn, and other members of the command team. A video of the event has been posted at: https://youtu.be/MDttbHr9PuY .
The approximately 130 deploying Soldiers are fully vaccinated and are wearing masks in order to ensure their continued safety as well as that of their family and friends prior to departure to Fort Bliss, Texas, today. At Fort Bliss they will undergo about a month of pre-mobilization training and validation. They will then deploy to the Central Command area of operations in support of Operation Spartan Shield for approximately 9 months. They have our best wishes for safety, security, and success!
