ARKANSAS: Pick One Program Offers Incoming New Students an Early Opportunity to Get Involved

Arkansas issued the following announcement on July 14.

One of the best parts of the college experience is the sense of belonging and community that comes from getting involved on campus. The U of A offers new students a range of ways to participate in campus life, including more than 400 registered student organizations and a variety of other programs. Knowing where to start can be challenging. That's where the Pick One initiative comes in.

Pick One is a first-year student involvement initiative that encourages new freshmen to make plans to get involved in the Razorback community before arriving on campus this fall. Through Pick One, students have the chance to explore and sign up for involvement activities throughout the month of July, so they are ready to participate during A-Week this August.

Incoming freshmen should check their UARK email addresses for news about Pick One and visit pickone.uark.edu.

"Having missed out on so much in the past year, it's essential that our new students make friends quickly, utilize campus resources and know that we are here to assist in any way we can," said Lori Lander, assistant vice chancellor for campus life. "In a campus-wide collaboration with over 15 departments, we have come together to offer our incoming first-year students an easier way to get involved in campus life prior to arriving on campus."

The Pick One involvement survey is available now. Students should make their selection by Aug. 1. Students who register to participate will hear from their selected department or organization in early August to learn about next steps and plans for the fall semester.

"Student engagement is key to student success," said Suzanne McCray, dean of admissions and vice provost of enrollment services. "We are welcoming our largest freshman class this fall. This is so exciting, but with it comes the responsibility of bringing students together outside the classroom and giving each student a sense of belonging, of being part of the Razorback community. Thanks to our many partners across the campus, Pick One will help us help our new students feel connected."

Students and campus partners who have questions or would like to know more about the Pick One initiative should contact the Office of the Dean of Students at 479-575-5007 or 4student@uark.edu. More information is also available on pickone.uark.edu.
