The Arkansas Razorbacks women’s track and field team is participating in two meets in Southern California this weekend, including the 66th Mt. SAC Relays and the Bryan Clay Invitational, according to an April 15 announcement.
These competitions provide opportunities for athletes to face strong opponents early in the outdoor season. Fans can follow live coverage of both events through subscription services, with Mt. SAC Relays available on runnerspace.com and the Bryan Clay Invitational on flotrack.org.
At the Bryan Clay Invitational hosted by Azusa, Josphine Mwaura will compete in the 10,000 meters on Thursday evening while Madeleine Gear is set to race in the 1,500 meters on Saturday. The majority of Arkansas’s squad will take part at Mt. SAC Relays across Friday and Saturday.
Arkansas entries for Friday at Mt. SAC include Ryan Jennings (100m), Heidi Hudson, Jennings, and Asia Thomas (200m), Rae-Anne Serville (400m hurdles), Arkansas C (4×400 relay), and Hudson again in long jump. On Saturday, Asia Thomas and Taejha Badal are entered in the invitational 100 meters; Badal also runs the invitational 200 meters; Abigail Campbell, Arianna Sharpe, Amirah Sharpe, Analisse Batista, Sanaria Butler, and Kaylyn Brown compete in invitational 400 meters; Makenna Herbst, Ainsley Erzen, Sanu Jallow-Lockhart and Batista run invitational 800 meters; Saira Prince joins Simone Ballard and Gabriella Cunningham for invitational 100 meter hurdles; Morgan Herbst competes alongside Prince again for invitational 400 meter hurdles; Arkansas fields teams for both invitationals of the women’s relays as well as Maria Arboleda contesting high jump.
Freshmen twin sisters Makenna and Morgan Herbst return to familiar territory after competing last year at Carlsbad High School near San Diego where they excelled at Mt. SAC Relays—Makenna won last year’s high school girls’ 800m event while Morgan finished second in her event before both contributed to a winning relay team.
Competition began Wednesday for Arkansas alum Taliyah Brooks who leads after day one of heptathlon action with a total score of 3,866 points following performances that included a first-place finish in high jump (5-9¼) as well as strong showings across hurdles (12.91 seconds), shot put (45-11¼), and a fast time of 23.87 seconds over 200 meters.
