The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) is set to hold a public hearing in Bigelow on Thursday, July 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. The meeting will discuss proposed design plans and an environmental assessment for improvements to Highway 60 in Perry County. The event will take place at Today’s Family Church, located at 123 Highway 113.

The project aims to raise the grade of Highway 60 and build a relief bridge to reduce road closures during major floods. ARDOT has previously held two public meetings about this project in April and July of 2024. Based on public feedback and coordination with local officials, changes have been made to avoid fully closing the Arkansas River bridge by adjusting slope requirements. This adjustment removes the need to elevate the bridge, while temporary signals will manage alternating one-way traffic.

Other design modifications include an improved connection to Ferry Boat Road. Meeting materials are available for review online and at several locations: ARDOT District 8 Headquarters in Russellville, Faulkner County Library in Conway, and Max Milam Library in Perryville. Comments can be submitted until Friday, August 8, 2025.

A Spanish translation of the website is available for non-English speakers. Comments can be submitted online or mailed to ARDOT’s Environmental Division in Little Rock. For those without internet access, Matt Strawn can be contacted at (501) 569-2281 or via email for inquiries about the project.
