The Arkansas Department of Transportation announced on March 25 that Highway 77 north of Highway 158 near County Road 538 in Mississippi County is scheduled to close around the clock starting at 6 a.m. Monday, March 30, for approximately 160 days. The highway is estimated to reopen on Monday, September 7.
According to the department, the closure will allow for the construction of a new bridge, weather permitting.
A signed detour will be in place during the closure. To reach the south side of the closure, traffic will take Highway 77 north to Highway 18, then east on Highway 18 to Highway 181, south on Highway 181 to Highway 158, and west on Highway 158 back to Highway 77. For those needing access to the north side of the closure, motorists should take Highway 77 south to Highway 158, east on Highway 158 to Highway 181, north on Highway 181 to Highway 18, and west on Highway 18 back to Highway 77.
Digital message boards, construction barrels, barricades, and signage will be used along with other measures to notify motorists about closures and detour routes.
