The Arkansas Department of Transportation has announced that the Federal Highway Administration has issued a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for proposed improvements to Highway 60, located west of the Arkansas River Bridge in Perry County. This decision allows the project to move forward to its next phase, confirming that it will not significantly affect the human or natural environment.
The primary goal of this project is to reduce road closures on Highway 60 during major flood events. Planned improvements include raising the roadway by approximately 10 feet and replacing the current culvert at Ouachita Creek with a new relief bridge measuring about 1,230 feet in length. These changes aim to decrease both the frequency and duration of flood-related closures, thereby enhancing safety and reliability for drivers.
Members of the public can access details about the FONSI and the project through its website. For those without internet access, inquiries can be directed to Matt Strawn at (501) 569-2281 or via email at matt.strawn@ardot.gov.
