A resident of Garland County has claimed a $1.338 million jackpot from the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery’s LOTTO game. The winner, who purchased his ticket at Casey’s #4638 in Fort Smith, secured the prize during the Oct. 15 drawing and claimed it the following day at the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Claim Center.

The man decided to buy a ticket after stopping for beef jerky and noticed that the LOTTO jackpot had exceeded $1 million. He asked the store clerk if he could still purchase a ticket before the drawing and was assured there was time. Along with tickets for Mega Millions and Lucky for Life, he bought one Quick Pick LOTTO ticket for Wednesday night.

After checking his numbers on the official AR Lottery + Club app early Thursday morning, he realized he had won. He confirmed the win by reviewing all six numbers himself.

“Heck yeah, my dreams came true!” he said, describing his reaction upon learning about his win.

He shared the news first with his brother and then with his sister-in-law, who congratulated him after seeing proof of his win. The winner intends to use his prize money to invest in retirement.

“We’re excited to celebrate another jackpot winner,” said ASL Executive Director Sharon Strong. “We are accomplishing exactly what we set out to do with LOTTO: give Arkansas players another chance to win big. Now, we’ve been able to help another Arkansan achieve their dreams.”

The current LOTTO jackpot stands at $266,000 for the next drawing on Wednesday night.

Since its launch in 2009, the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery has sold over $8 billion in tickets and provided more than $1.5 billion for scholarships benefitting students across Arkansas. Over 822,000 college scholarships have been distributed through the program. The lottery has also awarded more than $5.5 billion in prizes and contributed over $188 million in state and federal tax revenue.
