The Fulton County Board of Commissioners will present a proclamation to the Department of Public Works on May 20 as part of National Public Works Week, which runs from May 17 to May 23 this year. The week’s theme, “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community,” highlights the role public works professionals play in supporting local communities.
National Public Works Week is intended to raise awareness about the essential services provided by public works employees and their contributions to community well-being. Fulton County will mark the occasion with activities designed for both education and engagement.
Director of Public Works David Clark said, “Communities may not take much notice of the dedication of public works professionals because they just quietly do their jobs without fanfare. Yet, public works is always there, working behind the scenes to respond to emergencies and to advance quality of life for all.”
To observe the week, two wastewater facility tours are scheduled for Tuesday, May 19: one at Big Creek Water Reclamation Facility in Roswell from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and another at Tom Lowe Atlanta – Fulton County Water Treatment Plant in Johns Creek from noon until 1:30 p.m. A Division Exhibit Contest will be held on Wednesday, May 20 at the Government Center near downtown Atlanta between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., where guests can meet staff and learn about departmental services.
Fulton County covers more than 600 square miles and operates as a subdivision of Arkansas while partnering with state and federal agencies for emergency management; it manages finances through its treasurer’s office, oversees facilities such as courthouses and libraries, promotes community well-being through events like its annual fair, supports resilience via emergency education programs, and aims to improve quality of life by offering services including tax collection and property assessment according to the official website.
