Raymond Edward Bennett, a former resident of Gassville, was booked into the Baxter County Detention Center on April 20 following an investigation into allegations that he molested two female juvenile victims in 2016. The arrest comes after the victims provided detailed information to investigators, which led to a warrant being issued for Bennett’s arrest on February 3. Authorities said Bennett had moved to California before the charges were filed.
Bennett was arrested in Amador County, California, on or before April 6 based on the Baxter County warrant and was extradited back to Arkansas. He faces felony charges of rape and two counts of sexual assault in the fourth degree. Bennett has denied all allegations against him.
Sheriff John F. Montgomery said, “BENNETT is currently being held in custody in lieu of $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear before the Circuit Court to answer on April 17th.” Montgomery signed off as Baxter County Sheriff.
