Arkansas high school student Nora Medlock spent part of her summer serving as a U.S. Senate Page in Washington, D.C. Medlock, who attends the Arkansas School for the Mathematics, Sciences, and the Arts (ASMSA), was among several dozen students from across the country selected for the program.

As a Senate Page, Medlock’s duties included preparing the chamber before each day’s session by placing materials on senators’ desks, assisting staff in cloakrooms, and supporting operations on the Senate floor. She also helped senators during speeches and votes.

“My time as a Senate Page was truly unforgettable. While serving, I formed lifelong friendships, made valuable connections, and gained knowledge about the inner workings of our democratic system that genuinely deepened my interest in politics. I will always be grateful to Senator Boozman, and everyone else who was a part of my time in D.C., for making the experience so special,” Medlock said.

Senator John Boozman (R-AR) appointed Medlock to the position. “Nora was a valuable asset to the daily operations of the Senate while gaining firsthand experience with the legislative process and procedures. I am confident that serving as a Page will encourage her to continue pursuing her passion for public service and strengthen her leadership potential. Our entire state can be proud of how she represented us in this prestigious program,” Boozman said.

Medlock participates in several extracurricular activities at ASMSA including Model United Nations, Student Government, Model Arab League, Ocean Sciences Bowl team, and was a founding member of the debate team. Outside school, she competes in pageants and is certified as a lifeguard.

During her stay in Washington D.C., she visited notable sites such as the Library of Congress, national monuments, Smithsonian museums, attended a baseball game at Nationals Park and explored Georgetown.

The U.S. Senate Page program began in 1829 with an appointment by Senator Daniel Webster. It continues today as a selective opportunity for high school juniors with strong academic records to learn about legislative processes up close.

Medlock is from Dyer and is the daughter of Todd and Carole Medlock.
