A Craighead County resident, Jacob Yates, has claimed a $50,000 prize after playing the $50,000 Frenzy instant game from the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery. Yates purchased his winning ticket at Jordan’s Kwik Stop #69 in Osceola shortly after work and decided to try his luck on four scratch-off tickets.

Yates explained that he often buys multiple tickets to increase his chances of winning. After scratching the tickets in the parking lot, he discovered one ticket held prizes totaling $50,000: one for $10,000 and two for $20,000 each. “I thought I had only won $10,000 at first,” Yates told lottery officials.

He shared the news with his parents by phone. The winnings will allow him to relocate to be closer to his daughters.

There are still 21 top prizes of $50,000 remaining for the $50,000 Frenzy game.

The Arkansas Scholarship Lottery reports that since its inception in 2009 it has sold over $8 billion in tickets and returned more than $1.5 billion for scholarships benefitting students across Arkansas. Over 822,000 college scholarships have been awarded through funds distributed by the Arkansas Department of Higher Education. The lottery has also provided more than $5.6 billion in player prizes and contributed over $189 million in state and federal tax revenue.
