Central Arkansas defeats Bellarmine 14-7 with three home runs

Central Arkansas defeated Bellarmine University 14-7 on April 25 at Knights Field in Louisville, Kentucky.

The game saw Central Arkansas collect 18 hits, including three home runs and five doubles. Bellarmine committed four errors during the contest. Mark Ross and Casey Shipley hit back-to-back home runs for the Bears, while Zeb Allen added a two-run homer in the ninth inning.

Central Arkansas took an early lead in the second inning with a series of hits and doubles from Ross, Shipley, Allen, Nate Negre, and Jagger Schattle. By the end of that inning, they led 5-0. The Bears continued to build their advantage through subsequent innings as Shipley and Ross contributed additional runs in the third.

Bellarmine managed to close the gap at times with RBI efforts from Eli Watson, Cole Huett, AJ Swader, and Connor Pawlowski but were unable to overcome Central Arkansas’s offensive performance. Jake Jones started for Central Arkansas and pitched five innings allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits while striking out two batters. Silas Cowgill worked two innings in relief followed by Kannon Nesslage who closed out the game.

Ross finished with three runs scored, one home run and three RBIs; Allen had three hits including a home run with three RBIs; Shipley also tallied three hits along with a home run and three RBIs.

Central Arkansas is scheduled to go for a series sweep against Bellarmine at noon on Sunday.
