Attorney General Tim Griffin announced on Feb. 26 that the Opinions Search feature on the Arkansas Attorney General’s website has been upgraded, making it easier for users to access official attorney general opinions and expanding the system’s capabilities.
The upgrades are intended to improve transparency and accessibility for lawmakers, legal professionals, and the public. The Arkansas Attorney General’s office engages in initiatives addressing public integrity and community relations across the state, according to the official website.
Griffin said, “I am excited to announce upgrades to the Opinions Search feature of our website. These upgrades have made the process of accessing official AG opinions much easier and have expanded the feature’s capabilities.” He added that feedback from constituents led him to direct his IT team and Opinions & FOIA Division to enhance the system by adding thousands of previously unsearchable opinions from decades ago and greatly improving text-search functionality.
“Improving the entire process surrounding official AG opinions was a priority of mine when I took office in 2023, and I am extremely proud of the progress we’ve made in reducing turnaround time of opinion requests and increasing number of opinions issued,” Griffin said. “It is important to lawmakers, the legal community, and the general public that we maintain a streamlined, professional, and consistent system of issuing AG opinions… These upgrades to our website reflect that commitment.”
The Arkansas Attorney General’s office offers consumer protection services, handles civil and criminal matters, supports public safety initiatives, provides resources for fraud reporting as well as legal opinions, community education programs, serves all residents with legal services at a state level in both legal and public safety sectors—according to information available on its official website: official website.
Griffin also expressed gratitude toward Chief Information Officer Paul Davis for his work on this project as well as Deputy Attorney General Kelly Summerside who leads his Opinions & FOIA Division. Griffin has served as Attorney General since January 2023 after previous roles including Lieutenant Governor of Arkansas.
Looking ahead, these digital improvements aim to further support efficient access for those seeking information or guidance from past attorney general decisions.
