Arkansas State University’s women’s tennis team will play against Texas State in the quarterfinal round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia, on April 23.

The tournament is significant for Arkansas State as it marks their highest seeding since 1999. The Red Wolves are seeded fourth out of thirteen teams. Texas State, holding the fifth seed with a record of 14-7, advanced after defeating Georgia Southern on Thursday.

The match will be available for live streaming on ESPN+. Arkansas State finished its regular season strongly by winning four out of its last five matches, including a recent victory over Texas State earlier in April.

This season also marks back-to-back years with twelve wins for Arkansas State’s women’s tennis team, something not achieved since the combined total of twenty-five wins during the 2008 and 2009 seasons. Head coach Sujay Lama has recorded thirty-three wins through his first three-plus seasons—the most by any A-State tennis coach in their first three years, surpassing Marcia Williams’ previous record from the early 1980s. Since the start of the 2023 campaign, Arkansas State has won thirty-three matches across three seasons, which is just one short of their best stretch between 2007 and 2009.

The upcoming match represents an opportunity for Arkansas State to continue building on this period of improvement and set new records under Coach Lama.
