Arkansas State University’s track and field team concluded the Alumni Classic with seven event victories on April 19, while distance runners finished their competitions in California during the early hours of Sunday.
The Alumni Classic saw Arkansas State athletes maintain momentum from the first day by securing multiple top finishes. Chris Boyd and Menachem Chen placed among the top three in men’s shot put, recording throws of 18.81 meters and 18.76 meters respectively. These performances now rank as the third and fourth farthest shot put throws in program history.
JoJo Modile began the day with a personal best time of 13.83 seconds to win the women’s 100 meters, while Colby Eddowes won the men’s 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.13 seconds. Alexis Waller claimed her second event title this season in women’s triple jump with an effort of 11.68 meters, and Ali Lara earned her first collegiate win by finishing first in her event with a time of 1:03.79.
Other notable performances included Gavin Schaer setting an outdoor personal best in men’s high jump at two meters, and Selase Sampram winning the discus throw with a mark of 46.71 meters. Overall, Arkansas State athletes won sixteen out of thirty-one events at this year’s Alumni Classic.
In California, Parker Noffz competed at both the Bryan Clay Invitational and Leopard Invitational for distance running events. At Bryan Clay Invitational’s Open B section for men’s 1500 meters, Noffz finished fourth out of one hundred eighty-five participants with a personal best time of three minutes forty-seven point sixty-eight seconds—ranking eighth fastest outdoors in school history for that event. He also took eighth place in Leopard Invitational’s five thousand meter race with another top ten program mark.
The Red Wolves are scheduled to compete next at the Josh Reidinger Invitational on Friday, April twenty-fourth.
