The Arkansas State men’s golf team will begin play in the Sun Belt Conference Men’s Golf Championships at Annandale Golf Club in Madison, Mississippi, on April 26. The event marks the fourth consecutive year that the club has hosted the championship.
The Sun Belt Conference Championship features three rounds of stroke play starting Monday, with teams teeing off from split tees at 8:30 a.m. The top four teams after 54 holes will move on to match play on Thursday, April 30. Semifinal matches start at 7:30 a.m., followed by the championship match later that day. All rounds and matches will be broadcast live on ESPN+, and live scoring is available via Scoreboard.
For the tenth straight season, Arkansas State enters as a top-four seed and is ranked No. 45 nationally according to SCOREBOARD NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Rankings. The Red Wolves are joined in the national top-100 by Georgia Southern (53), Southern Miss (66), South Alabama (77), and Coastal Carolina (82). Louisiana, Texas State, James Madison, Troy, Georgia State, App State, ULM, Old Dominion and Marshall round out the field. Arkansas State holds this season’s best stroke average among competitors at 281.4.
Senior Thomas Schmidt leads both his team and conference with a single-season program record stroke average of 69.04. Other players representing Arkansas State include Jake Wallis (70.33), Milan Reed (71.26), Cole Kirby (72.89) and Jake Lile (72.33). Viggo Hed is also traveling as an available substitute.
According to the official website, Arkansas State Red Wolves Men’s Golf competes in the Sun Belt Conference and plays home events in Jonesboro, Arkansas as part of its affiliation with Arkansas State University athletics program functions as an intercollegiate men’s golf program featuring players from diverse international backgrounds such as Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Australia and England alongside athletes from various U.S states.
Arkansas State has reached match play finals each of the last two seasons—winning over ULM for the title in 2024—and won last year’s stroke play portion while finishing second overall.
