The Arkansas State Red Wolves men’s golf team won the team championship at the A-State Spring Invitational, according to an April 14 announcement. Thomas Schmidt led the way by securing his second consecutive and seventh career individual medalist honor at RidgePointe Country Club.
This victory is significant as it marks the fourth win of the season for Arkansas State, making them only the fourth team in program history to achieve four or more wins in a single season. The team’s consistent performance included an eighth consecutive round under par, extending their single-season program record to 21 rounds under par.
Schmidt finished with a final round score of 3-over-par 75 for a total of 6-under-par 210. This win ties him with Zan Luka Stirn’s single-season record of three victories set during the 2018-19 campaign and extends Schmidt’s own program record to seven career wins. Five other Red Wolves placed inside the top ten: Jake Wallis and Cole Kirby tied for second at five-under-par, Jake Lile finished fourth at three-under-par, Niels Knudsen tied for fifth with a two-under-par finish, and Milan Reed tied for ninth after shooting one-under-par.
The Red Wolves totaled a score of 25-under-par (839), finishing ahead of Houston Christian by 38 strokes. Southeastern Louisiana, Bradley, and Omaha rounded out the top five teams in the tournament standings.
