The Arkansas Razorbacks softball team defeated Mississippi State 10-3 to take the series in a game played on April 12 at Nusz Park, located on the campus of Mississippi State.
This victory moves Arkansas to a season record of 35-6 and a conference record of 10-5. The team has now won four out of five Southeastern Conference (SEC) series this season.
Key performances included Dakota Kennedy, who went three-for-three with two runs batted in, two runs scored, a double, and two walks. Brinli Bain and Tianna Bell each had multiple hits, while Karlie Davison contributed with two hits and one run. Kailey Wyckoff and Kennedy Miller both hit solo home runs in the fifth inning that gave Arkansas a lead they maintained for the rest of the game. Robyn Herron earned her twelfth win of the season after pitching four innings with only one run allowed. Payton Burnham secured her third save by pitching nearly three perfect innings.
With this win, Herron achieved her fiftieth career victory as an Arkansas pitcher. She is now one of only seven pitchers in program history to reach this milestone alongside Mary Haff (97 wins), Heather Schlichtman (73), Tammy Kincaid (72), Autumn Storms (66), Katy Henry (56), and Rachel Talley (52). The Razorbacks also broke their single-season program record for double plays turned with their thirty-first this year; the previous record was twenty-nine set in 1999.
Mississippi State’s Peja Goold took her fourth loss after allowing five runs over just over four innings pitched. With this result, Mississippi State stands at 34-11 overall and has six wins against nine losses within league play.
Looking ahead, Arkansas will travel to Norman, Oklahoma for a three-game series against the Oklahoma Sooners from April 17 through April 19.
