Three Arkansas Scholarship Lottery players have claimed significant Powerball prizes in recent draws, according to the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery (ASL). The winners, who started the new year with their winnings, include Freddie H. of Jefferson County, Charles C. from McDonald County, Missouri, and M. Nichols from Little Rock.
“In addition to the $1.817 billion jackpot, we want to celebrate a few more winning tickets sold in Arkansas recently,” said ASL Executive Director Sharon Strong. “With all the excitement surrounding Powerball, we’re reminded of how our work can support the average Arkansan, whether that be through lottery-funded scholarships or big wins like these.”
Freddie H. won $150,000 in the December 20 Powerball drawing after purchasing a Quick Pick ticket at Camden Fuel Mart in Pine Bluff. He matched four out of five numbers plus the Powerball number and increased his prize by using the Power Play multiplier.
“I like the big fish,” Freddie told lottery officials.
He initially aimed for a larger jackpot but was pleased with his win after checking his numbers while at home watching television. He shared news of his win with his two daughters and plans to travel with them.
Charles C., who works in Rogers and bought his ticket at Walmart #5837 Fuel Station there, claimed a $100,000 prize from the December 24 drawing by matching four numbers plus the Powerball number and doubling his winnings through Power Play.
“How would you like this for Christmas?” he asked his wife when revealing their good fortune.
“Is this for real?” she asked.
The couple is considering several projects they hope to start with their prize money.
M. Nichols from Little Rock also won $50,000 on December 24 after buying a ticket at Cantrell Mart Inc. He discovered his win while at home and intends to use some of his winnings for gifts for family members.
“I thought it must be a mistake,” he told lottery officials.
The largest-ever Arkansas Powerball jackpot of $1.817 billion remains unclaimed as of now; the winning ticket was sold in Cabot for the December 24 drawing and must be claimed within 180 days from that date.
Powerball tickets are available at licensed retailers throughout Arkansas and via retailer apps offered by ASL’s Play on the Go partners. More information about where to play can be found on ASL’s website: https://myarkansaslottery.com/where-to-play
Since its inception in 2009, ASL has generated over $8 billion in sales and provided more than $1.5 billion for scholarships benefitting students across Arkansas through over 822,000 awards administered by the Department of Higher Education. Additionally, more than $5.6 billion has been awarded as prizes to players statewide; retailers have earned over $467 million in commissions; state and federal tax revenues have exceeded $190 million.
