The Arkansas Razorbacks lost 8-7 to the top-ranked Oklahoma Sooners in a closely contested softball game on April 17 at Love’s Field.
The result is significant as it marks a setback for Arkansas, currently ranked No. 6/8, against the leading team in the country. The game was marked by several lead changes and strong performances from both teams.
Arkansas started strong with a two-run single by Karlie Davison and a two-run home run from Tianna Bell, taking an early lead. However, Oklahoma tied the score with a grand slam by Isabela Imerling. Ella McDowell put Arkansas ahead again with a solo home run in the fifth inning before Oklahoma responded with runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to secure an advantage. Despite scoring twice in the seventh inning and having the winning run on second base, Arkansas could not complete their comeback as Alyssa Parker recorded the final out for Oklahoma.
McDowell had three hits including her solo homer, drove in two runs, and scored three times for Arkansas. Bell also contributed with multiple hits and two runs scored. Robyn Herron started for Arkansas, allowing four runs over just more than three innings while Saylor Timmerman took her first loss of the season after giving up four total runs over just over two innings pitched.
For Oklahoma, Audry Lowry improved her record to 19-2 despite allowing seven runs on eight hits. Parker earned her first save of the season by closing out the game.
With this defeat, Arkansas moves to a record of 35-7 overall and holds a conference mark of 10-6. Oklahoma improves its record to 41-5 overall and stands at 14-2 within SEC play.
Notable achievements during this game included Reagan Johnson making her 204th start batting leadoff—second most in program history—and McDowell registering her ninth career three-hit performance along with her twenty-fourth multi-RBI game. Bell hit her forty-fifth career home run during this contest—the highest among all active Razorbacks players.
The teams will continue their series tomorrow night at Love’s Field.
