Officers from the Arkansas Highway Police, a division of the Arkansas Department of Transportation, seized a large shipment of marijuana during a safety inspection on Interstate 40 in Crawford County. The incident occurred on Saturday, October 11, when officers discovered six pallets of marijuana hidden within a load of pool tables. The total weight of the illegal substance was approximately 3,000 pounds, with an estimated value exceeding $3.5 million.

“This seizure underscores the commitment and vigilance of AHP officers to combat drug trafficking and ensure the safety of our roadways,” said AHP Chief Jeff Holmes. He noted that in 2025 alone, officers have confiscated over 23,000 pounds of illegal drugs on highways across the state.

Holmes emphasized the importance of ongoing law enforcement efforts to disrupt drug trafficking operations: “AHP remains steadfast in its mission to protect and serve the citizens of Arkansas by continuously removing dangerous criminals from our Highways.”

The driver involved, Steve Williams, aged 43, was reportedly traveling from California to Florida at the time. Williams was arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and simultaneous possession of a firearm. He is currently detained at the Crawford County Detention Center.
