The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) is set to begin improvements on the Highway 112 Corridor with a groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 6. The event will take place at the ARDOT Maintenance Office located at 3518 Highway 112 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
This project marks the first of eight planned developments aimed at enhancing the infrastructure along Highway 112. The initial phase involves widening a 1.44-mile stretch from two lanes to four between Truckers Drive and Howard Nickell Road in Fayetteville. The plan also includes constructing three roundabouts, two turnaround locations, and a pedestrian tunnel.
The initiative is a collaborative effort involving the City of Fayetteville, the Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission, and ARDOT. Upon completion of all phases, Highway 112 will feature a four-lane roadway with a center median extending over an 18-mile span from Fayetteville to Bentonville.
“The Highway 112 Widening Project represents ARDOT’s commitment to improving safety and connectivity for all who use this corridor,” said ARDOT Director Jared D. Wiley. He added that roundabouts are expected to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion at key intersections while the new shared-use tunnel will offer safe passage for cyclists and pedestrians.
The $43.9 million contract for this project has been awarded to APAC-Central, Inc., based in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
