The Arkansas Department of Transportation announced that plans for improvements to Highway 49 from Marmaduke to south of Halliday in Greene County will move forward. The Federal Highway Administration has issued a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI), allowing the next phase of project development to proceed.

The department said the FONSI means the project will have no significant impact on the human or natural environment. The purpose of the project is to improve safety between Marmaduke and Halliday.

Proposed improvements include adding travel lanes, a passing lane, or a continuous center left-turn lane depending on the roadway section. The plan also calls for widening shoulders and existing bridges along this stretch of Highway 49.

The public can view the FONSI and additional project details on the project website. Those without internet access are encouraged to contact Matt Strawn at (501) 569-2281 or matt.strawn@ardot.gov with questions about the FONSI.
