The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the completion of the Scogin Drive Extension in Monticello. The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, at Monticello Elementary School.

The project includes a new railroad overpass and two roundabouts, designed to improve traffic flow and safety. One roundabout is located at the intersection of Scogin Drive and Highway 83 Spur (Jordan Drive), while the other is at Scogin Drive and Old Warren Road. The extension also provides direct access from Highway 83 Spur to Highway 278.

The $30 million project was awarded to Mobley Contractors, Inc., with contributions from ARDOT, the City of Monticello, and Drew County. The City of Monticello contributed $2.5 million, including $709,000 from the Delta Regional Authority, while Drew County provided $505,000.

Upon completion of this project and the resurfacing of Highway 83, ARDOT will transfer portions of Highway 83 Spur and Highway 83 to local authorities. “Partnering projects allow us to work with cities and counties to directly respond to the needs of a community,” said ARDOT Director Jared Wiley. “We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with the City of Monticello and Drew County on this project. We believe it will lead to increased safety for the traveling public in this area of the state.”

The ceremony will conclude with a ribbon cutting at the roundabout at Scogin Drive and Jordan Drive.
