D. Hernandez of Missouri City, Texas, claimed a $100,000 prize after purchasing a Mega Bucks instant game ticket at Jordan’s Kwik Stop #45 in Lonoke, Arkansas. She collected her winnings at the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery Claim Center on August 14.

Hernandez, who was working in Arkansas at the time, described herself as an infrequent lottery player. She bought the ticket during a stop for gas and said she had recently faced some difficult circumstances. “Something told me to try it,” Hernandez told lottery officials.

After winning $30 from her first set of scratch-off tickets, Hernandez used those winnings to buy four more $5 games. One of these tickets revealed the $100,000 top prize. Upon learning she had won, Hernandez shared the news with family members and her employer. She plans to use the prize money to support her daughter and purchase a home.

“Taking care of my baby is my number one priority,” Hernandez said.

According to the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery (ASL), one remaining top prize of $100,000 is still available in the Mega Bucks instant game.

In addition to this win, lottery officials highlighted that tonight’s Powerball jackpot stands at $605 million—the largest advertised Powerball jackpot in over a year. Tickets are sold for $2 per play until 8:59 p.m. on drawing nights; players can add the Power Play multiplier for an extra dollar per ticket. Powerball tickets are available at licensed retailers throughout Arkansas and via retailer apps through ASL’s Play on the Go partners. More information about locations and online options can be found on the Where To Play page at MyArkansasLottery.com.

Since its inception in 2009, ASL has generated more than $8 billion in sales and contributed over $1.5 billion toward scholarships benefiting students across Arkansas. The lottery reports that more than 822,000 college scholarships have been distributed by the Arkansas Department of Higher Education since then.

The organization encourages responsible play and provides resources for problem gambling assistance through national helplines and organizations such as Gamblers Anonymous.
